Well, while their big screen efforts have been hit or miss, DC's generally been doing quite well with its direct to DVD movies.
An adaptation of the Great Darkness Saga, for example, could be really well done. Or for something smaller scale, perhaps the original Fatal Five/Sun Eater story.
I don't know what they could adapt for a live action film (probably would be an original 'origin' story). But I've always thought Legion Lost would make a FANTASTIC animated movie. The opening could showcase the huge cast as they defend the Earth from some kind of rift in space. And then a smaller group of Legionnaires get trapped inside, so you have a more manageable cast size for the bulk of the film.
Dylan: No, I never did see Crisis in Time. I was led to understand it wasn't that great and I wasn't sure how to get a hold of it in the first place.
Really I think the Legion is a better fit for long-form stories than one-offs like movies. The animated series worked pretty well, for instance. Maybe there's a blogpost in that...
Jim: Yeah, that sounds like it would work. But Hollywood seems to have this idea that audiences insist on origin stories, so...
Wonder how the Superboy matter gets handled. They'll probably put him in the movie for box office insurance. But if it's the same kind of Superguy that appeared in Man Of Steel,no thanks.I'd like a Superboy that's not a killer, and I want a Legion movie that's fun,not grim and gritty.

I also don't recall off-hand... did you ever see/review the Crisis in Time JLA DVD movie with Karate Kid and Dawnstar?

ReplyDeleteWell, the thing did say that this potential Legion movie was supposed to be "lighter", for whatever that's worth.
ReplyDeleteI would be happy if they finally released Season 2 of the Legion's animated series on DVD or at least for download.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather a complete-series collection. I didn't get the various first-season DVDs because I was holding out for something more comprehensive.
