Issue #10 Review
What Happened That You Have To Know About:
This issue opens on the aftermath of the fight on Helegyn. The Legion won, and captured Elysion. Cos and Brainy make up in public, and split up into three teams to implement Invisible Kid's universe-saving plan:
To Dormir: Cosmic Boy, Star Boy, Colossal Boy, Light Lass, Element Lad
To Ttrxl: Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, Chameleon, Sun Boy, Shadow Lass
To Terror Firma's unnamed homeworld: Ultra Boy, Karate Kid, Phantom Girl, Triplicate Girl, Princess Projectra
Meanwhile, Invisible Kid stays behind because nobody still trusts him, and Brainy and Dream Girl stay behind because they're trying to figure out why her powers don't work right anymore.
We don't really see what happens to the three away teams, but on Earth, Lemnos's sleeper agents among the legionnaires in the plaza set off some suicide bombs, which cause havoc and free Elysion. Elysion gets away and demolishes Legion HQ in the process (also destroying the transmatter gates and stranding the away teams). Brainy and Lyle dig themselves out of the rubble and find Dream Girl looking kind of dead.
Review:
Oh no! Dream Girl died! She was cool, too.
Looking back at the issue summary, it sounds like not a lot happened. But really it seemed like a lot while I was reading the comic. Barry Kitson's back and on his game. And I have no idea what's going to happen next. What a great and maddening comic book.
Membership Changes:
Three points this issue.
First, Elysion claims that Brin Londo is dead. This is possible; Elysion is wearing Brin's jacket. Still, Elysion's a stinkin' liar, so I don't really buy it. I'll believe Brin's dead when I see the body and not before. Not that Brin's a Legionnaire anyway.
Second, Karate Kid tells Invisible Kid that there's no such person as Atom Girl/Shrinking Violet. Obviously, Karate Kid is a more reliable witness than Elysion. I don't believe it anyway. What's the point of introducing the idea of Violet as only a made-up character and preventing any future writers from making use of her? I say that Vi exists and Karate Kid doesn't happen to be one of the people who knows about her.
Third, Dream Girl. There's still a basis for hope. Sure, her inability to see the future beyond the building falling on her is suggestive that she's dead now, but that can be explained away. There're all kinds of stories we can come up with, for how she could have survived that. But I'm getting the idea that she really is dead. Poor Dreamy.
